Retrospective Series: A Look Back, Part 4

This year took a sharp turn into the graphic design realm—and it was an absolute blast. Every moment was full of creativity and fun, making it one of the most unique and inspiring chapters yet.

Shira & Neil — too cool for school — married at the Green Building in Brooklyn. Their research was experimental, fun, and had lots of nods to vintage illustrations. We just had a ton to work with and took them up on the challenge.

Meet Elizabeth the bull. His proud parents, Toni and Tony, couldn't imagine their save the date without their bovine beauty. The couple adopted Elizabeth as a calf and he remains the apple of their eye. We were more than happy to oblige and indulge in the fun with their flat, nature-meets-pastel aesthetic.

Another couple with terrific inspirations, including illustration by Roger Duvoisin and Bella Foster. We're suckers for homage to great illustrators and we had fun making this invitation for Beth & Mark.

When Mary K & Tom asked us to use early Disney and 1950's illustration as key influences in their project we smiled ear-to-ear and dove right in. This is their project.

The thank you card for their project. No, thank YOU Mary K and Tom, design this was a blast!

We fell in love with the carefree, loose, romantic garden feel of Kat & Forrest's venue at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle (with a sneak appearance from their cats at the bottom of the design).

This is a close up of Mexican inspired laser cut invitations – it's so tactile and bold. We're revisiting Kelli and Dan's stationery where we left off. The bold, colorful sensibilities continued from their Save the Date into their white invitations on pomegranate envelopes - a gorgeous combination.

We were so excited to be asked to work on Kelli and Dan's on-the-day stationery; table numbers, escort cards and menus. Because we had worked with them before the trust we had formed allowed us the freedom to explore and go for it aesthetically. These were just about having fun and creating a loose, care free, exuberant feel for their wedding day. We designed hand-painted, vibrant flowers and leaves.
May 2016 Blog Post. Fashion inspired portrait wedding invitation illustrated by Laura Shema for Jolly Edition.
Laura and Jeff, a cool couple interested in irreverent modern art and fashion, wanted a simple, casual and considered design. It was a lot of fun to make a painting so loose, bold, and confident.
